Privacy policy

Last updated: June 9, 2026

basn5 is operated by Tajima Direct LLC, doing business as basn5 (“basn5,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information we collect when you visit or make a purchase from our store, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We keep it in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, email us at help@basn5.com.

The short version

  • We collect what we need to make your glasses, ship your order, and help you when you reach out.
  • Your prescription is health-related information. We treat it with extra care: it is used only to make your lenses and service your order, it is shared only with our own lens laboratory, and it is never sold or used for advertising.
  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete your information at any time.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Contact and order details — your name, email address, phone number, billing and shipping addresses, and the products you order.
  • Prescription information — if you order prescription lenses: your eyeglass prescription values (sphere, cylinder, axis, ADD), your pupillary distance (PD), segment height where applicable, and any prescription file you upload. See “Prescription information” below for how this is handled.
  • Payment information — payments are processed by our payment providers (such as Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, and the wallet or card network you choose). We never see or store your full card number; we receive only confirmation of payment and the last digits of the card for order reference.
  • Communications — messages you send us through our contact form, by email, or in connection with a return, try-on, or warranty claim.
  • Account information — if you create an account: your login email and order history.

Information collected automatically

When you browse the store, we and our service providers automatically receive certain technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, time zone, the pages you view, the products you look at, how you arrived at our site, and how you interact with it. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below) and is used to make the store work, keep your cart between visits, prevent fraud, and understand how the store is performing.

Prescription information

Your prescription tells us about your vision, so we treat it as sensitive information and hold it to a stricter standard than the rest of your data:

  • It is used only to manufacture your lenses, verify your order, and provide customer service related to your order.
  • It is shared only with our own direct lens laboratory for the purpose of making your lenses. It is not shared with any other third party, except where the law requires it.
  • It is never sold, never used for advertising or marketing, and never used to build profiles about you.
  • Prescription files you upload are stored securely on our platform and are accessible only to the people who need them to fill your order. You may ask us to delete your prescription information at any time after your order is complete (see “Your rights”).

How we use your information

  • To process, fill, and ship your orders — including making your lenses and arranging home try-on.
  • To communicate with you about your order: confirmations, shipping updates, prescription questions, and return or warranty service.
  • To respond when you contact us.
  • To screen orders for fraud and keep the store secure.
  • To understand how the store is used so we can improve it.
  • To send you marketing email only if you opt in — and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
  • To comply with legal obligations such as tax and accounting requirements.

Cookies

Cookies are small files placed on your device. We use them to keep the store working (for example, remembering what is in your cart), to remember your preferences, and to measure how the store performs. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may prevent the store from working properly (for example, your cart may not be saved). Where required by law, we ask for your consent before setting non-essential cookies.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. We share it only with:

  • Our lens laboratory — prescription and order details needed to make your lenses.
  • Service providers that help us run the store — Shopify (our e-commerce platform), payment processors, shipping carriers, email providers, and customer-support tools. Each receives only what it needs to do its job and may not use your information for anything else.
  • Legal and safety — when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, or necessary to protect our rights, our customers, or others, including to prevent fraud.
  • Business transfers — if basn5 or Tajima Direct LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, customer information may transfer as part of that transaction; this policy will continue to apply to it.

How long we keep information

We keep order records (including the prescription used to make your lenses) for as long as needed to provide warranty service, handle returns, and meet tax and legal record-keeping requirements. We keep account information until you ask us to delete it. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.

Security

All traffic to our store is encrypted in transit using TLS (the padlock in your browser). Payment details are handled by PCI-compliant payment processors. Prescription files and personal data are stored on Shopify’s secured infrastructure with access limited to those who need it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information using industry-standard measures, and we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your data.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can:

  • Access — ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct — ask us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Delete — ask us to delete your information, including your prescription, subject to records we are legally required to keep.
  • Unsubscribe — opt out of marketing email at any time via the link in any message or by contacting us.

To exercise any of these, email help@basn5.com. We will verify your identity (usually by confirming control of the email on your order) and respond within the time required by applicable law. We will never treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to access and correct it; to delete it; and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA, and we do not use or disclose sensitive personal information (such as your prescription) for any purpose other than providing the services you request. You may exercise these rights yourself or through an authorized agent by contacting us at the email above.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on these legal bases: performance of a contract (making and shipping your order), legitimate interests (store security, fraud prevention, improving the store), consent (marketing email, non-essential cookies), and legal obligation (tax and accounting records). In addition to the rights above, you have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Your data is processed in the United States; where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children

Our store is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or the law. We will post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date, and for material changes we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
